I just found out that John and Sir Edward Elgar lived in the same town at roughly the same time.

John moved there some time in the late 1900s and lived there until the end of 1914 when he left for training and never returned. Elgar lived there from 1904 to 1911. They moved in profoundly different social circles but it’s entirely possible they may have crossed paths at the station, or at the chemist’s, or even in church.
