Peter O’Toole 1932-2013

Noted actor Peter O’Toole has died.

He was not just an actor but an idealist who once turned down knighthood on principle, a peace activist, a self-described romantic, and in his words a “retired Christian” who fell out with organized religion, but not with Christianity’s more admirable ideals like peace, love, and non-judgement.

Among the roles he played, interestingly enough, was as Henry II in the 1968 film version of “The Lion In Winter.”

However, the role I remember him most for was as Don Quixote in the 1972 film version of “Man of La Mancha.” Perhaps it says volumes about me that I remember more of his Don Quixote than his Henry II.
